Morning Prayer

The great element of reform in eternal, but is not born of human wisdom; it draws not its life from human organization; it is the spirit of Truth, and it penetrates to the heart, elevates and consecrates the affections — until man thinks, speaks, and does good from the very necessity of his being. From this standpoint of Christianity, the institutions of error and wrong crumble and pass away; sin dies out; the human yields to the divine; the mortal and erring thought falls before the immortal and unerring; and the prayer is fulfilled — ‘thy kingdom come’ — and the supremacy of Spirit is seen, the omnipotence and omnipresence of God are understood.

For God is All-in-all, the only creator of the only universe and man. We are His children and we do realize the all-fulness of the omnipotence of God.

Daily Watch

11 — WATCH lest you rejoice in the glorification and healing of matter, rather than in the fact that you are beginning to realize the desirability and supremacy of divine Mind. Luke 10:20 reads, “Rejoice not, that the devils are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” Rejoice in cause rather than in effect. As truth begins to impregnate this human sense, there is a period when effect may seem so attractive that you believe it is worth saving, and strive to do so.

In trap shooting, the clay pigeons are painted in an attractive way only that they may be blown to bits. The Bible states that in ancient times the sacrifices had to be some animal without blemish, a firstling of the flock. This illustrates the fact that the improvement brought into human thought and matter through the action of demonstration is the preparation for its annihilation.

Discussion points

Matter disappears under the microscope of Spirit.

“As soon as one commences the study of Christian Science he is carried straight to the beginning of things. He is not asked to contemplate the latest electronic theory of matter or to speculate on its possible relationship to the material senses; neither is he asked to follow the speculations of the various philosophical schools from or before Plato to the revolutionary teaching of Einstein; rather is he brought at once face to face with the facts of real being, face to face with the primal cause of all reality, presented with statements of absolute Truth relating thereto. In other words, those who enter upon the study of Christian Science begin to learn the truth about Divine Principle, which is at once the circumference and the center of being.”

“Our Leader writes: “There is but one primal cause. Therefore there can be no effect from any other cause, and there can be no reality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause” (Science and Health, p. 207). Does evil or disease proceed from the one perfect, primal cause? Impossible! Then evil or disease can have no reality. It is, as Christian Science terms it, a false belief, an illusion, an unreal sense. The very fact that evil or disease can be healed or destroyed is proof of its unreality; for, surely, that only can be real, in the absolute sense, which is indestructible.”

Excerpts from The One Primal Cause, from the Christian Science Journal, May 1922, by Duncan Sinclair

“You worship no distant deity, nor talk of unknown love. The silent prayers of our churches, resounding through the dim corridors of time, go forth in waves of sound, a diapason of heart-beats, vibrating from one pulpit to another and from one heart to another, till truth and love, commingling in one righteous prayer, shall encircle and cement the human race.”

from Miscellany, by Mary Baker Eddy, page 189

Encouraging story for Plainfield watchers from East Germany that can be applied to Islam problem in NYC, in America as a whole, and in the world in general — After the fall of the Berlin wall, an East German lady testified that she had prayed every day for 10 years before the wall finally fell.

She said that the wall fell in a moment, but that fall was not the work of a moment, rather it was the work of all the moments leading up to the moment of the fall. Also crucial were the “Monday Morning Prayer” sessions that began in 1982 and lasted till the fall of the wall in 1989.

Two great example of the principle of importunity at work! (The Monday morning prayer sessions were the work of a local church in Leipzig)

From Parthens

“Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense.”

Winston Churchill

Responsive Reading: Psalm 62 : 1, 2, 5-8, 11
1. Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.
2. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.
5. My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
6. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.
7. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
8. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.
11. God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.

10. 167
Our proportionate admission of the claims of good or of evil determines the harmony of our existence, — our health, our longevity, and our Christianity.

John 11:41-42
41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

3. II Kings 18 : 1, 3, 5-7
1 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.
3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that David his father did.
5 He trusted in the Lord God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him.
6 For he clave to the Lord, and departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which the Lord commanded Moses.
7 And the Lord was with him; and he prospered whithersoever he went forth:

The Way that is Best by William P. McKenzie

I love to observe Christmas in quietude, humility, benevolence, charity, letting good will towards man, eloquent silence, prayer, and praise express my conception of Truth’s appearing.

What Christmas Means To Me, from Miscellany by Mary Baker Eddy, pages 261-263

The best spiritual type of Christly method for uplifting human thought and imparting divine Truth, is stationary power, stillness, and strength; and when this spiritual ideal is made our own, it becomes the model for human action.

5. John 17 : 1 (to 3rd ,), 3 (this), 11 (Holy), 13, 17, 20, 21, 26 (that)
1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said,
3 …this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
11 Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
26 …that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

God is our Father and our Mother, our Minister and the great Physician: He is man’s only real relative on earth and in heaven. David sang, “Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.”

Brother, sister, beloved in the Lord, knowest thou thyself, and art thou acquainted with God? If not, I pray thee as a Christian Scientist, delay not to make Him thy first acquaintance.

Glorious things are spoken of you in His Word. Ye are a chosen people, whose God is — what? Even All. May mercy and truth go before you: may the lamp of your life continually be full of oil, and you be wedded to the spiritual idea, Christ; then will you heal, and teach, and preach, on the ascending scale of everlasting Life and Love.

Call by Jesus to Thaddeus from “THE CHOSEN” Season 5 Episode 8

What if I told you I have something else in mind for my life and yours? Something that will last. A kingdom not built by hands. A fortress stronger than stone.
Would you join me in helping build that? A new Kingdom — with eternal value.
What is the pay, you may ask? There is no pay.
At least, not in the earthly sense. I’m a Rabbi. And I am asking you to follow Me.
You’ll be part of changing the world. Become part of a family — not of relatives, but of blood bonds, just the same.
Spend your days with some of the most interesting, unfettered, funny, driven, brave, nurturing, smart, strong, passionate, fiery, loyal, loving, imperfect people to ever walk the earth.
You will see — and do — things you cannot imagine.
You’ll be adored…hated…needed…lost…and found.
You will live everywhere….and nowhere.
You will lose friends….you will lose all your friends…and your own life.
You will go to the ends of the earth and yet be part of the beginning of the greatest movement on earth.
People will say you are a fool, and that I was a fool, and that it was all a lie.
They’ll call us heretics, and liars, and frauds. Others will celebrate and venerate your memory, and call you a saint. But none of that is the point.
The point is that you will have said “yes” to the world’s “no”. That you hoped against hope, and believed against belief.
That you surrendered everything, and held fast to the very end.
Will you follow me?
